In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake of 6 February 2023, the Türkiye Natural Gas Assembly, chaired by İbrahim Akbal, convened a special session. The meeting focused on pooling insights and experiences from both public and private sector entities to better understand the impact of the disaster and to in future preparedness.
Assembly President Akbal explained that the meeting’s singular focus was on improving preparedness and raising awareness in the face of earthquakes and other disasters. He acknowledged the difficulties encountered due to the earthquake’s extensive reach. However, he praised the swift response and dedication of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the Energy Market Regulatory Authority, BOTAŞ, GAZBİR members, and LNG/CNG suppliers in overcoming the challenges. Mr Akbal offered his condolences to those who lost their lives in the devastating disaster that struck our country, wished a speedy recovery to the injured, and expressed his sympathy for those left behind. He emphasized the importance of always being prepared, hoping that such a tragedy would never happen again.
