EgeGaz Chairman of the Board and General Manager İbrahim Akbal pointed out that the EgeGaz LNG Terminal at Aliağa, which began operations in 2006, is one of only two land-based LNG terminals in Türkiye.
Akbal highlighted the importance of LNG in the natural gas system, saying “Unlike pipeline gas, where you have limited control over the supply, LNG gives you full control over your procurements. With LNG, you have the flexibility to regasify and supply your system with the exact amount of gas you require and whenever you need it. Think of an LNG terminal as a 24-hour standby pharmacy for natural gas. It provides on-demand supply, allowing for instantaneous regasification and delivery to the national grid whenever needed.”
Akbal highlighted the importance of the EgeGaz terminal within Türkiye’s natural gas landscape, noting that it accounts for 34% of the nation’s LNG infrastructure. “With winter fast approaching and supply-side issues persisting, the EgeGaz Terminal is currently running at full capacity without interruption.”
